A week away

Hi, Paige here! I am currently headed back to the beach from Highlands, NC. We went with my mom, two sisters, niece and nephew, and daughter and husband for a week. It was really great… Well let me start from the beginning. First, the airconditioning went out in my car about a week before we left so I decided to have it fixed while we were out of town…. Sounds smart.. Right?!? Except the night before we left we were running a few last minute errands in my husbands car and his airconditioning just stopped. Great start to a getaway! I called my dad and he came to the rescue! So… as I write this I am crossing Alabama in one of my dad’s farm trucks(Fyi… My dad is a farmer). Thanks dad for the use of the truck with airconditioning. A neccessity if you ask me! We went through Birmingham on the way for a furniture presentation with our client who is building at lake Martin. Which went great! We are so excited about the house! Then off to the mountains. We just hung out, went whitewater rafting, napped, walked around Highlands, drank wine in the afternoon… And just relaxed. It was REALLY awesome and very needed! Here are some random shots of the week! Starting with me sitting back in the farm truck writing this post while Mark drives through the Alabama countryside.

I hope you all have a great 4th of July!

Pearfect little giveaway

Summer is in full swing here at our Rosemary Beach shop & studio! With the 4th of July just around the corner I’ve been contemplating what to make for our annual block party. My Key Lime Pie? Should I use the blackberries from my mother’s garden back in Georgia and whip up a Paula Dean style Blackberry Cobbler? Or perhaps this is a good time to make my first attempt at Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream? Decisions, decisions.

With all of these recipes milling about in the back of mind I suddenly had a vision of an old, old recipe I grew up on-Southern Pear Salad. This is no gourmet dish, but if you have spent any time around  family style Southern cooking then chances are you know exactly what I’m talking about. These  little pears in our shop are a sweet reminder of those times with family & friends as a little girl without a care in world. At only 5″ tall one would look perfect on your kitchen window sill or maybe as an addition to your favorite grouping somewhere?

something doesn’t look right here…

We know, our blog looks funny.  Something went crazy with WordPress yesterday and our web designer/graphic design guru Ryan was able to apply a ‘band-aid’ to the problem for the time being.  We’re working on rebuilding the blog back to how it originally looked but it will probably take a couple of days.  Bear with us until then.  Perhaps that technological melt-down we experienced a couple of weeks ago at our Rosemary Beach studio has reached into blogland too!

Anyway, we hope everyone’s week is off to a great start and hopefully all will be back to normal here on the blog soon.  As always, we appreciate everyone reading and keeping up with us very much.

Flushmount lights

There are so many different types of lighting available for a home.  We love to find or design great pieces for our projects.  We do not like to “litter” the ceilings of our projects with can lights.  It doesn’t look great and there is no interest in the lighting design.  In a design  some ambient lighting and focused lighting for art are needed but other types of lighting create the overall finished look of a home.  A series of flushmount lights down a hall way or in a kitchen can look great and are a favorite element in our designs!  Sometimes great looking flush mounts are hard to find so we have narrowed the scope for you.  Here are a few of our favorites.

One of our all time favorite flushmounts. Availble through Tracery.

We love the nautical look of this fixture. Available for purchase through Tracery.

Doug used this light in his kitchen. Available at Restoration Hardware. We love this classic schoolhouse light. Available through Tracery.

The other shape for the classic schoolhouse fixture. Available through Tracery.A modern take on a schoolhouse fixture. I have this fixture in my daughter's, Mallory, bath.
