randomness lately

I can’t think of a post that has any type of continuity right now so here we go… randomness… things we have done lately….

Bess and I styled a photo shoot for a magazine. The new Vie should be out in a few weeks. An issue about a preppy summer.

Doug and I met with one of our fav clients and worked on their new house.

One of our clients and one of my best friends had a house concert…

I always love her chandelier…

I made my grandmother’s cornbread.

I drove through the fields of South Alabama… Where I am from…

We have some fun finds from flea markets, antique shop etc. for the 2012 Southern Living Idea House. Here they are on a cart at our “little warehouse”.

We installed a house in Alys Beach.

And we installed a gulf front home… More on these later.

So anyway… this is some of what we have been up to lately.

I had dinner tonight outside with my husband. April and May at the beach are amazing. It is great to sit outside with a great bottle of wine and enjoy the evening.

Southern Living Bedrooms

Hi all! We have been totally MIA… A little nuts around here. We have been working on lots of projects but wanted to give you a few more updates on the Southern Living House.

The 2 bedrooms upstairs are going to be classic southern farmhouse style with a clean lined more modern pieces mixed in to give the rooms the total Tracery look and feel. Here are shots of the fabrics for both bedrooms.

The first one is a very neutral scheme with the linen duvet, white wood walls, and gingham pillows and drapes.

In the second upstairs bedroom we have a room focused around blues. The bed is layered with the ticking stripe and plaid bedding. The drapes are the khaki and navy striped fabric. The room is going to feel like a classic room with a little whimsy introduced in the farmyard print wallpaper in the bathroom.

Back to a little more work tonight! (but we did just finish dinner here at home… It is taco Tuesday at our house which is always a family fav)

party in Mountain Brook

Hey it’s Doug. We had a party last Friday night at our Mountain Brook shop.  We were excited to have two artists we represent at the event, which featured their artwork–Mountain Brook native Mila Hirsch who produces really beautiful botanical prints and New Orleans based Mallory Page, whose amazing mixed media pieces we’ve carried in both of our shops for the past couple of years.  Flower magazine co-sponsored the event with us and between us, Flower and the artists, we invited a lot of people!  And we had quite the crowd…Shindigs Catering parked their food truck out in front of the shop and by the end of it, Mountain Brook Village was happening!

Do you ever have a party and forget to take pictures during the event?  We’ve been known to do that before, and this was no exception.  Not to worry though, our friends from About Town were there snapping pics of our guests (we’ll share think link when the photos are up on their site) and Hannon went around after the party and took some photos of the shop.

It was so great to have Mila and Mallory and so many of our friends at the shop…we need to have parties more often!  We still have lots of great pieces from both artists available, so if you see anything you like here give us a call at (205) 414-6026 and we can send you more info.

Southern Living Idea House… another update

Hi! Paige here! The 2012 Southern Living Idea House is moving along. AK and I headed up to Senoia to visit the site along with Frank and Jen from Southern Living. We walked the home and to see the progress…. it is looking great! Scott, John, Tom, and Terry were there to meet us. We install the house next month and we are wrapping up the final details. Here a couple shots of the home.

Scott is sporting the Southern Living 2012 Magnet on his car.

Anna Kay Taking notes.

This guest bath is going to be great!

This is Tom. Say Hi Tom!

Then we went outside to unload the fun antiques and vintage finds we had in our van and we found out our van that we lovingly have named “Tracey” was dead!

Here she is being towed away!

Thank goodness we had our great Southern Living team there to help us out! So we rented a car the next morning and on to Scotts to find goodies for the house!

This chest will be in the foyer. We loved the worn white finish.

These little beauties will be in the master bedroom.

This table was the perfect find for the living room. It will be behind the white chesterfield sofa with 2 great lamps from Barbara Cosgrove.

So now we are headed back home for a couple weeks then back to Senoia for the install!

photoshoot with VIE

Hi y’all! It’s Bess here and I’m writing you from the Houston Hobby Airport en route to an amazing house we are working on in Cinnamon Shore in Port Aransas, Texas. This week is an ideal example of why I love my job. You are never 100% sure of what the next day may bring and whatever you do…..know to always expect the unexpected. Paige and I spent Monday with the wonderful team at VIE magazine styling shots for their July/August issue. This was a little out of our realm of ‘ordinary’ as we were styling picnics and fun outdoor activities up & down 30A. We were outside soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the company of a team that works at a pace similar to ours on install days. Enjoy a few behind the scenes shots I took throughout the process.

Pretty picnic in Rosemary Beach...that started at 7am!

Paige's interview at the Alys picnic shoot.

Almost too pretty to eat.

Lisa Burwell & Ainsley Rogers (both of VIE) plotting the next shot.

A bright pop of orange on a sunny day.

Also, a big thanks to all who participated-there’s always another fun giveaway just around the corner!

{Giveaway} Another great coffee table addition!

Hi Y’all! It’s been a crazy few weeks here in Rosemary Beach, FL. with the buzz of Spring Break all around us. Not to mention everyone, Mountain Brook included, is running around with exciting installs and trying to find the final finishing touches for our Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Georgia. Sorry we have been M.I.A. for a bit! So to make up for our absence we are offering up TWO copies of another great design book just dying for a coffee table to call home. ‘Coming Home, The Southern Vernacular House’ is the first book by Jim Strickland & Partners of Historical Concepts-who are the architects working with us on the Southern Living Idea House. How appropriate?!

You have all weekend to enter, until 9pm Sunday to be exact! Please leave a comment on this post and tell us what your favorite part of ‘Coming Home’ is? The two winners will be announced Monday. Good luck and ‘may the odds be ever in your favor!’ {yes I have been sucked into reading the Hunger Games lately}
