L.A. for the holidays also known as Better Late than Never!

Hi all!  OK…. I am a little behind with this.  I wrote most of this post in January then never finished.  But here it is… I am embracing the saying “Better late than never!”

Paige here!  Over Christmas my family and I went on a fun trip to Los Angeles. We just on a whim picked a trip that we all wanted to go on and just went.  We had soooo much fun.  We stayed our first night in Venice Beach, then L.A. for a few nights, then Santa Barbara, back to L.A., then home to Florida.  It was one of those trips with your family that is just so amazing  (and a much needed break).  When we travel we love to share beautiful places we visit with you.  We believe that traveling is always inspiring.  Here were some of our favorite spots.

Rooftop bar at our hotel

Lunch at Gjelina- AMAZING

Loved Shopping on Abbott Kinney in Venice Beach.  (I did ship a cake stand home… love it!)

Little something special from Kelly Wearstler

In and out Burger in Westwood

The weather was perfect at the Getty.

The decor, food, and experience were all excellent at The Bazaar.  It was sooooo Philip Stark (which it should be since he designed it!)

Hello Wine Country….L.O.V.E.  the Santa Ynez Valley

Headed for drinks.

Then we headed to the Chateau.

The room was so pretty with the Christmas Tree.

I love the personalized stationary in the room.  A great touch.

Well that’s it.  We loved L.A.  We can wait to head back west soon.

2012 Southern Living Idea House: Plumbing Sneak Peek

HiRise Faucet from Kohler

Enjoy the next piece to our puzzle-plumbing! It was so nice to get to work with Kohler who’s plumbing we have used in the majority of our projects here at Tracery. They were a great sponsor & had the perfect pieces to compliment the look & feel of this farmhouse renovation. The plumbing in the 2012 Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Ga. is classic and timeless. Each of these pieces will stand the test of time just as this c. 1830’s home has.  Let’s hear from you-what would you like a glimpse of next?

[tracery tips] best whites

To this day one of the most asked questions about our work is what paint colors we use. We love white-if you haven’t noticed. White interior-white exterior-white mill work….black & white, green & white…..we love it all! Below are a few our favorite whites that we have used over & over again that you will definitely want to file away for your next big project.

Benjamin Moore China White

This is probably our most used white and for good reason. Here you can see that it has a warmer almost gray undertone that makes a room feel clean & cozy. We used this color through out the Lake Martin residence below. The all white scheme lends the spotlight to the detail & textures with in the space and not just colors & patterns.

Benjamin Moore Decorator’s White

Decorator’s White is another tried & true classic interior white. It’s bright & clean making it the perfect white to bring new life to an old space as you can see from the Rosemary Beach renovation we did below. This is also the perfect white to reflect the perfection of a sunny day through statuesque windows. The Rosemary Beach Private Residence that is featured in Veranda this month soaks up the Florida sun through it’s expansive windows. Pick up a copy (on stands now!) to enjoy the rest of the home.

Restoration Hardware Buttermilk

We love so many of Restoration Hardware’s paint colors-they truly have developed a new range of classics. A few years back their Buttermilk was the perfectly warm white for this private residence in The Retreat. It’s warm with out any taupe/yellow undertones. It’s technically in the ‘Butter’ collection at Restoration Hardware, but after using it for the majority of the interiors in this space we beg to differ. This white will make your home feel warm & cozy.

Sherwin Williams Pearly White

And Pearly White from Sherwin Williams is to soon be your new favorite white-we promise. We loved it so much that the majority of the interiors of the 2012 Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Ga. is painted this color. We are sorry-but the photo below is the only interior shot we can share. The issue will be out later this month-enjoy one more clue!

2012 Southern Living Idea House: Lighting Sneak Peek

Bess here to give you a little glimpse of the lighting we used throughout this year’s Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Ga. We had amazing sponsors who’s lighting really helped revive this historic farmhouse. This was a great opportunity to showcase a few of our favorite fixtures that we haven’t had an opportunity to work with yet and at the same time we were able to utilize some of our own tried & true ‘classics’ that we have worked with in past projects. Soon you will all be able to enjoy all of our little ‘clues’ together in one glossy spread!

Looking forward and looking back…. Southern Living Idea Houses

We are sooooo excited about the 2012 Southern Living Idea House which is open to the public now for tours.  Visit Southern Living’s website for more info on tour dates and time.  The house will be featured in the August issue of the Southern Living magazine.  We will let you know when it is released.  Here a few detail shots from around the house.  We can’t wait for you to see the entire house.

These are our pillows that are made from our custom line of fabric.  The pillow on the right is a mitered stripe fabric named fluting color driftwood.  In the photo you can see a peak at the white chesterfield sofa.

Theseare custom shadow boxes we designed to display the collection of antique keys we found while out looking for vintage and antique pieces for the home.

He is just to cute for words.  I think he needs a name…. maybe Ned.

Now for looking back….

In 2009 we designed the Idea House for Southern Living in Cinnamon Shore which is located in Port Aransas, Texas.  We had a great time and loved working with the Southern Living team so we were excited to come back in 2012.  In case you weren’t following us back then here are a few of our favorite shots from the 2009 Southern Living Idea House.

And this photo we have seen crop up all out there in blogland and pinterest.  We STILL love the saffron barn door.  Don’t you?

We cant’ wait to share more from this year’s idea house later this month.  We hope you had a great 4th of July!
