[may 2010] cottages for kids

There are so many terrible things in the news these days with the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the terrible flood in Nashville, TN. We are all being bombarded with it left and right and everyone is affected in one way or the other. With that said we are happy to have some GOOD NEWS to share with you! This week marked the beginning of Cottages for Kids here in Rosemary Beach. An event that in past years has taken place around the Thanksgiving holiday has now shifted to the Spring and is happily spilling all over the Eastern Long Green. It’s always so exciting to see what local builders/developers/architects/designers come up with each year. Did you know that our affiliated company, Dungan Nequette Architects, won a few years back with their awesome ‘Old Lady that lived in a shoe’-themed play house?! The play houses will be on display from May 8-30 and open for tours from 10am-4pm each day. Stop in and check them out if you are in the area. The images above & below are from this past Tuesday…we can’t wait to see the finished product. And if you are in the market for a new play house this is an AMAZING cause! For more info click [HERE] for the Cottages for Kids website, [HERE] for the facebook page or [HERE] for the CVHN website.

[sneak peak] Seaside Designer Showhouse for the Arts

We are so happy to announce that this year’s CAA Designer Showhouse for the Arts will be located in Seaside, Florida. If you recall-Tracery designed the Master Bedroom Suite in the Alys Beach Designer Showhouse for the Arts last summer. If you toured the Alys Beach Showhouse last year then you will be pleasantly surprised to see many of the same designers return & possibly even a few new ones! The house will be open to the public on Saturday May 29 and will be open every Wednesday-Sunday from 12-5pm. It’s a limited time though, seeing as the house will only be open till Saturday July 3rd! For more information please click [HERE]. More to come…

helping haiti

By now we have all heard of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12 that left one of the poorest countries in the world in a state of emergency beyond our imagination. The relief efforts popping up left & right can be borderline overwhelming. I know I find myself thinking-what’s legit? What will have the biggest impact? What is the best/easiest way for ME to give? [This is Bess, just in case you were wondering who ‘Me’ was] You can donate through the Red Cross, UNICEF, Care, Google, the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund & so many others. I found a great page through Google that you can get to by clicking [HERE] that breaks down many of the organizations. There are also great ways to donate that support the arts as well. Erika over at Urban Grace made her contribution by purchasing a print for her daughter, check that out [HERE].

Personally, I think I am going to be sending a check to the Stray Dog Designs Haitian Worker Relief Fund [HERE]. Stray Dog Designs is a company we have supported for several years now-we love their message & their products. They strive to bring the design world funky, hand-made products that bring work &  in-turn funds to artisans in third world countries. Their products are hand crafted in Haiti & Mexico. Stray Dog Designs has created their own relief fund so that they can donate directly to the hundreds of workers in Haiti that create all of their Papier Mache products, like the lamps pictured above & below.  To give to this fund you can send a check to:
