It’s time for another installment of our [tracery tips] series and today we’re focusing on our favorite pendant lighting. We like to use single pendants over large islands in kitchens, or over dining tables–one large one for a round table maybe two or three in a row for a rectangular table. We also like pendant lights over conference and work tables in commercial settings. Pedant lighting makes ties free-floating tables and islands visually to the architecture of a room and in its most practical sense, it provides lighting immediately above areas where it’s needed. Pendant lighting also works well where space doesn’t allow for a larger chandelier-style fixture, such as in hallways or small foyers.
All different shapes, sizes, finishes and prices; here are seven of our go-to favorites for great pendant lighting:
Mason Wide Hammered Iron Pendant: 13.5″ x 13.5″ – We love the rustic simplicity of this light which looks great hung in a row of several fixtures. $361 retail, Arteriors available through Tracery
Large Country Pendant (pictured in Polished Nickel): 19.5″ diameter x 54″ max. length – This classically styled fixture is one of our favorites for use in kitchens. $1315 retail, Visual Comfort available through Tracery
Meri Drum Chandelier: 26″ diam. – Talk about glamorous! This cosmopolitan fixture would be stunning over a dining table at the beach or a boardroom table in the city. $2856 retail, Oly Studio available through Tracery
Aspen Large Iron Ceiling Light: 19″ diam. x 20″ high + chain – We’ve used this fixture several times in different lake projects — there’s just something so sophisticated yet still rustic and simple about it. $420 retail, Visual Comfort available through Tracery
Arianna Large Glass Pendant: 18″ high – We always love mercury glass, it’s so beautiful when lit from within. This relatively small fixture is a great choice to hang over bars with seating because the obscured surface of the mercury glass prevents diners having a glaring light bulb looking them in the eye. $277 retail, Arteriors available through Tracery
Single Prismatic Industrial: 14 diam. x 20″ high x length as specified – We love the old-school industrial feel of this fixture. We’ve used fixtures like this everywhere from kitchens to retail settings and the retro-cool vibe they give off works every time. $1075 (varies with finish and options), available [here]
Extra Large Hicks Round Pendant: 16″ diam. x 22″ high + chain – How great would this handsome fixture look hanging in an entryway, or in a row down a hallway? The little touches of brass trim give beautiful detail to this fixture, which is also available Polished Nickel. $812 retail, Visual Comfort available through Tracery

Taht hammered effect bronze/copper pendant looks superb. I would love to use one in my dining room but I would have to change the rest of the decor to match. Might be a good idea 🙂 Not sure my husband would agree though.
