We shared images of the main living space of a home located on Lake Martin near Alexander City, Alabama last week [see previous post here]. Today we thought you might like to see some more of that beautiful home.
Located adjacent to the areas we featured last week, the home’s kitchen is a functional yet beautiful complement to the other main living areas. because it is completely open to the living areas, Paige and Anna Kay selected finishes and details which relate visually to the rest of the house. Two furniture-like islands keep the space from feeling too much like a utilitarian area, as does the omission of upper cabinets. Above the sink a huge window overlooks the front motorcourt.
Open shelving provides storage while keeping the homeowner’s ironstone collection to stay on display. A striped wool rug adds some whimsical color to the subdued palette.
Just through a doorway near the sink, a Butler’s Pantry provides storage for food, serving pieces and acts as a pass-through to one wing of bedrooms in the home. To make use of the upper cabinets (the main level of this home has 10 to 12 foot ceilings in most places), Paige and Anna Kay devised rolling library ladder.
To keep the butler’s pantry from becoming too white, blackened steel panels make up the top row of cabinet doors. A custom laser-cut design–for which we collaborated with our sister company The G Brand to create–is a subtle detail which repeats elsewhere in the home.
There’s still more of this wonderful home to share…stay tuned!
