We realized it’s been a few years since we shared a few of our favorite things [que The Sound of Music...] and lots has changed around here! Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we all share a few of our cant-live-without products, hobbies & past times.

{Hannon-Mountain Brook}

1. A Saturday of doing nothing but relaxing by a pool with a stack of design magazines.

2. The Lululemon Stride Jacket. It's the most comfortable piece of clothing I own & it makes exercising less miserable.

3. Hot Tamales. I can eat a whole box in one sitting & should probably cut that habit soon.

4. Stell by Stella McCartney. If I had a 'signature scent' this would be it!

5. Mac, ny nephew. He's the cutest kid on the planet & he is currently working on saying 'Hanny'.

{Kristina-Rosemary Beach}

1. J. Crew Suitcase.....I love me some yellow & a suitcase making this an unbeatable combination!

2. Kitchenaid Mixer. It's pink & it mixes cake for you. I'll take one in every color!

3. The 50/50 Project. Local artists designed the State's mottos with a fresh new perspective. Love Florida's!

4. Lifeproof Case-you can put your iPhone underwater & it won't get wet! I have tested this.

5. Bote Paddleboards. They are manufactured near by in Destin, FL by Auburn Grads!

Hi! Paige here. We are currently updating our website…. it is a process to say the least. We are adding a few new photos and bios of ourselves… (btw… we do better behind the scenes instead of in front of the camera). Our photographer and my wonderful friend Sheila Goode did an amazing job. Check out her blog and website {here}. To say Sheila is amazing to work with is an understatement. Here is a little preview….

A quick trip and a few new favs…

Hi all! Paige here. AK and I are driving back home to the beach from a quick overnight trip to Atlanta. We were working on the Southern Living 2012 Idea House and a few other projects.

We went to meet the group at Ballard today (they are a sponsor for the Southern Living Idea House). We got to see new products they are releasing this spring/summer and make selections for the house. It is going to be fun! We can’t wait to show y’all!

But first this morning we stopped by Historical Concept’s office this morning to review the plan updates with Claire and to go through all tile selections for the home.
Then on to ADAC to look at fabrics for a few beach projects that we have in the works. Here are a few of our favorites….

Then we headed over to the Idea House to take a look. It is really coming together. Here is quick snap shot from the house today

Whew… What a day…. We are in Alabama now… Headed home (don’t worry AK is driving).

Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home, part 3

We’ve already shared the first floor of the 2011 Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home that we designed [here] and [here] Today we’re taking the tour upstairs with the Kids Den and two of the home’s three bedrooms.

Our design concept for the Inspiration Home was to create a showhouse that felt like a real house. We added travel photographs, collectibles, stacks of magazines, cozy throws and even kids artwork throughout the house to make it feel as if a real family called the place home.

In the Kids Den at the top of the stairs we selected a DwellStudio sofa from Birmingham Wholesale Furniture, covered in a fun yellow and grey Ikat print. A fun blend of pillows cozies up the window seat. Over the sofa we hung a collage of artwork collected from a variety of shops around town…the needlepoint deer from The Nest in Homewood, AL was an especially big hit–it was signed MOM in the corner!

In one corner of the Kids Den we placed a desk from Alabama Furniture Market and hung a huge custom-framed bulletin board from Four Corners Gallery over it. We borrowed artwork from Birmingham Home & Garden editor Cathy Still Johnson’s twin girls to decorate this corner of the room!

The Inspiration Home has three bedrooms upstairs…we styled one for a boy, one for a girl, and one as a guest suite.

We paired two twin beds from Suite Dreams in the Boys Room and dressed them in fun John Robshaw bedding. The walls of the room were painted in Benjamin Moore’s Boothbay Gray.

In the Girls Bedroom, we layered lots of white bedding–again from Suite Dreams–with a big curvy upholstered headboard. Hot pink Ikat pillows from our shop make the room feel fun and girly–as does the piece above the bed by Candace Greer (which we just sold this week!)

There’s one more area left to see…the Guest Suite. We’ll share photos of that in a few days…it was a favorite of many people on the tour. We think you’ll like it too!

Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home, part 2

: The Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home Master Bedroom

Since the majority of the first floor of the home was painted the same color, we chose a different shade for the Master Bedroom to give the room its own personality. The walls are painted Benjamin Moore ‘China White’ and the wood planked barrel-vaulted ceiling is whitewashed with a 50/50 mixture of China White paint and water. An amazing antique rug from Paige Albright Orientals covers much of the dark-stained oak floors. Drawing from the colors found in the rug, and from the antique church attendance roll, we highlighted the room’s white color palette with different shades of grey and blue.

The bedding is from Suite Dreams (our next door neighbor in Mountain Brook!). We mis-matched a pair of chests on either side of the bed–one mirrored and one a faux silver leaf. The chests and settee–which is covered in a fun floral print that keeps the room from being too serious–are from Alabama Furniture Market. The pair of matching lamps are from Mulberry Heights Antiques.

In the adjacent Master Bathroom, we carried on the white theme creating a restful and soothing space.

Our friends at Triton Stone Group introduced us to these big ‘Alabama White’ marble tiles–less grout means less cleaning and upkeep and the larger tiles give the shower a fresh and up-to-date feeling. Wouldn’t you love to relax in this bathroom?

Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home, part 1

Hi friends–after a brief break we are back…happy 2012! As you know, over several weekends in November and December 2011, the Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home we designed was open for tours. The home was also photographed for this month’s issue of the magazine, which is on newsstands now.

Designed in conjunction with architect Chris Reebals of Christopher Architects, the home turned out beautifully. We furnished it with a combination of pieces from our own shops and items gathered from various sponsors around Birmingham. We are so grateful to the many shops who loaned pieces for us to use in the home–and we’re proud that we were able to showcase what a great resource Birmingham is for furnishing a home! As we share photos of the home over the next few days, we’ll attempt to point as many of the sponsors as we can.

The Living Room at the 2011 Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home

In the Living Room, a flatweave rug from Paige Albright Orientals was placed over Peacock Pavers on the floor. The linen sectional sofa (we love the squared high sides) is a Bernhardt piece from Dwellings. The tall wingback chairs from Birmingham Wholesale Furniture compliment the high window–which we painted Benjamin Moore ‘Black’ for contrast. The walls are Benjamin Moore ‘Grant Beige’ — one of our favorite paint colors. The chandelier and sconces are Visual Comfort–also in dark bronze to add contrast against the linen colored walls. The cowhide-upholstered ottoman and the fun pillows are all available in our Mountain Brook shop.

The combination of these curvy demilune consoles from Mulberry Heights with charcoal grey glass lamps from Birmingham Wholesale Furniture and black and gold tole-painted mirrors from Iris & Co was one of our favorite parts about the Inspiration Home.

The Inspiration Home’s Kitchen was one of our favorite spaces. Tiled from countertop to ceiling with 3×6 ‘Alabama White’ marble tiles from Triton Stone Group, the design of the room recalls working cook’s kitchens of the 1920′s. We had the inset maple cabinetry painted in Benjamin Moore’s ‘Nantucket Grey’ an herbal color that blends beautifully with all of the marble and stainless. The island is topped with white oak planks harvested from trees downed during the April tornadoes that so severely effected Birmingham. Wolf and Subzero appliances throughout. The open shelves are accessorized with a variety of white pottery, dishes, and glassware–utilizing a clean and common color scheme helps keep open storage from becoming too busy.

In the nearby Dining Room we placed linen chairs around a beautiful oval table from The Nest. If you visited the Inspiration House while it was open for tours you might not remember these chairs–we had originally selected them at Mulberry Heights to go in the House but they sold before we could install the interiors! Thankfully our friends at Mulberry let us borrow them just long enough for the photoshoot. The white linen chairs in the house during the tour were from Tracery.

Doesn’t the antique wood chandelier from Baker Lamps & Linens blend beautifully with the whitewashed wood ceilings? In a room that has primarily sheetrock surfaces, details like a planked wood ceiling can add so much.

Rounding out the first floor (excluding the Master Bedroom, which we’ll share soon!) was a beautiful and cozy Study.

We had the Study walls planked in horizontal wood planking which is washed in a half paint/half water mixture. Front and center in the room is a dramatic and unusual cabinet from the always amazing Henhouse Antiques.

Hey friends–it’s Doug, can you believe it’s almost 2012? Before 2011 got away from us, we wanted to take a few moments and look back at the past year. As always, it’s been an exciting year for us and lots of great things have happened at Tracery. Here are a few highlights:

We started off the year in Atlanta, where our design staff (and Heather, who handles our purchasing and keeps everything happening) visited Market.

In February we were beyond excited to see a project we designed here in Mountain Brook featured in the pages of House Beautiful!

In March, Paige and I traveled to New York to visit the job site for a new corporate office we designed for Core Real Estate (one of the firms featured on HGTV’s Selling New York)

March also saw the debut of 30A Style, a great new book featuring homes along beautiful Scenic Highway 30A–where our Rosemary Beach studio and shop is located. Our dear friends Lynn Nesmith and Jean Allsopp are responsible for 30A Style, and they kindly featured three projects of ours in the book, including Paige’s own home!

In April, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles featured a home we designed at Lake Martin. This house has probably been published more than anything else we’ve designed–it’s always a favorite (we’re pretty fond of it too, for the record!)

In May we received an exciting package…it was the sample of our new custom fabric! Our first design, ‘Rose Window’ features a stylized version of our logo, printed in a driftwood color on white linen. We’ll have the fabric available for purchase by the yard in early 2012.

In June, we all gathered together at the beach for the opening of the 2011 CAA Design ShowHouse for the Arts. We designed the Living Room of the house.

In June, a previous year’s Designer ShowHouse was featured in Traditional Home. We were excited to see the Master Bedroom we designed make an appearance in the feature.

July brought big changes to Mountain Brook…we moved our studio and shop to a new location! Our new location has been a really positive experience so far, we are loving the increased traffic–and more space to showcase our merchandise!

We all took some time off this summer too. In August, Paige and I headed to New York for Market and then visited the Hamptons for a few days accompanied by Paige’s husband Mark and our friend/client George.

Over the summer, the team at the Rosemary Beach studio completed a home in Seagrove Beach for fashion designer Stephanie Nichols. In September, Paige and AK put together an amazing photoshoot at the home! We can’t show you the whole house (it’s still being shopped around to some magazines) but here’s a peek:

Also in September, Hannon got married in an amazing ceremony at Lake Martin. For those of you who’ve been asking, you can see some of the details from Hannon’s big day {here}

In October, we began installing the interiors of the Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home.

November brought another install, this time at a home at Lake Martin which we’d been working on throughout the year. We’re still ironing out some final details but we were able to get the family in for the holidays.

In November, Southern Living also announced that we’d been chosen to design the interiors for one of the magazine’s 2012 Idea Houses (we had previously designed an Idea House in 2009). We’re looking forward to working on this exciting project in the coming year.

December was typically as busy as it always is. The Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home was open for tours throughout the month. We hosted several events at the house throughout the month.

Also in December, my own home was featured on the Independent Presbyterian Church Holiday Home Tour (the Inspiration Home was on the tour too!)…a record 1600 people took part in the event!

Along the way we also completed projects in Missouri, Alabama, Florida and Texas (I might have forgotten one…it seems like we were all on the road or in the skies all year long). It’s been a hectic and busy year, but also a lot of fun…and we are so thankful for all of YOU who have supported us and been interested in what we’ve been doing along the way. Here’s to a great 2012!

Merry Christmas Y’all! We have had a great year and we are very grateful. We hope everyone is having a fun, slightly crazy, relaxing, and exciting holiday season. Last week my home was featured on Veranda’s Holiday Decorating: Designers at Home. It was really fun to get my house ready for this with my friend Lynn Nesmith (who is a stylist and the author of the book 30A Style). I love to use nature from Seagrove to decorate for the holidays. My ingredients for this year’s Christmas decorations: magnolia, gold spray paint, jute, plaid ribbon, yapoun holly, persimmons, tangerines, kumquats,gold balls from target, gold mercury from tracery, cedar, burlap, cotton (from my dad’s farm) and white lights. All of this together created our home for the holidays… Here are a few shots for you to enjoy…
